We are working on!
Strand: Measurement
*Estimate and measure length, area, mass, capacity, temperature, and time
*Relate personal referents to standard units
*Explore methods for measuring, and interpret the statistics of these findings
*Explore the capacity of a cubic metre
*Calibrate a 1 litre measure and use it to measure container volumes
*Estimate weekly use and consumption rates

Problem from today Using 120 cm can you make a triangle with a right angle and whole numbers? (10 cm, 30, cm) We found one, a right angle with 30cm, 40cm, 50cm sides Can you find different ways? Bring your solutions in on Monday :) |

Today we looked at this site http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtAYV2FqdBE When your child is on this site they can practice angle and/or triangle review go to adaptedmind.com click the red practice tab at the top highlight grade 5 go to Geometry look under for angle or triangle review play |

We have been working this week on measuring angles with our protractor which helps to support their ability to identify and classify angles. We have begun to look at triangles. Want to help out, make sure for child can measure with a protractor. Give them some triangles to identify and measure! These websites might help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQETZgv04BI http://bowenpeters.weebly.com/uploads/8/1/1/9/8119969/geometry_terms_and_symbols.pdf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpDbxbFtMM8 |
We are working on!
Strand: Geometry
* regular polygons, and other two-dimensional shapes
* distinguish among prisms, right prisms, pyramids, and other three-dimensional figures
* identify and classify acute, right, obtuse, and straight angles
* measure and construct angles up to 90º, using a protractor
* identify triangles (i.e., acute, right, obtuse, scalene, isosceles, equilateral), and classify them according to angle and side properties
* construct triangles, using a variety of tools given, acute or right angles and side measurements
